Brand Overview

Alpha Skin Care's Essential Renewal Gel 10% Glycolic Acid is a bona fide beauty bargain! Its lightweight texture is an especially great find for anyone with normal to combination/oily skin seeking an AHA exfoliant.

True to claims, the 10% glycolic acid (AHA) really can help diminish fine lines and reveal softer, smoother skin. The formula also contains beneficial anti-agers such as green tea extract and panthenol (vitamin B5).

Housed in an opaque squeeze tube, the silky gel base blends effortlessly into skin and absorbs quickly for a non-greasy, non-tacky finish. Very nice esthetics, indeed!

Much to our delight, Alpha Skin Care formulated this product in the appropriate pH (4.1) for the glycolic acid to function effectively as a leave-on exfoliant. (It's surprising how many brands don't get that right.)

Among its many benefits, the glycolic acid in this fragrance-free formula helps reduce signs of sun damage and concerns like dryness, as well as wrinkles. (Journal of the German Society of Dermatology, 2012 and Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, 2010)

Keep in mind that if you have oily skin accompanied by blackheads and breakouts, salicylic acid (BHA) is a more effective ingredient to treat those issues, but otherwise Essential Renewal Gel 10% Glycolic Acid is a great option to consider. Those with dry skin can use this product but will want to follow up with moisturizer for added hydration.

Bring out your healthiest and most radiant skin to date with the Alpha Skincare Essential Renewal Gel 10 Glycolic AHA. This lightweight gel comes packed with 10% glycolic and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHA is an essential skin care ingredient proven to loosen the outer layer of dead skin cells and stimulate the forming of new skin cells. Helping to combat acne and prevent future breakouts, it's an anti-aging and acne treatment all in one. The reveal is a softened, refined complexion. Witness wrinkles and fine lines diminish to become soft, supple skin.

Water, Glycolic Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, Sodium Lactate, Green Tea Extract, Carrageenan (Sea Kelp Extract), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Idopropynyl Butylcarbamate, PVM/MA Decadiene Crosspolymer.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Skin Care (formerly Alpha Hydrox) recently got an impressive image update. Along with a new name, they've also revamped their products. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Skin Care has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery.

Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Skin Care for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.
