Brand Overview

Alpha Skin Care offers a number of well-formulated AHA products—at drugstore prices—and its Enhanced Renewal Cream 12% AHA is no exception. A combination of good ingredients in the right packaging makes this an AHA exfoliant worth knowing about, no matter your skin type!

This lightweight, non-greasy cream-lotion is easy to apply. It sinks into skin quickly and has an immediate softening effect.

A 12% concentration of glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) is the star here, and with a pH of 3.84 it can effectively exfoliate skin and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

This fragrance-free cream also features skin-conditioning ingredients like panthenol and urea, a peptide, and a couple of antioxidants—all in a convenient plastic flip-top tube that protects these delicate ingredients from light and air.

A well-formulated AHA exfoliant is a great addition to your skincare routine, and this one is certainly worth considering!

Note: This product was formerly available as 12% Glycolic AHA Souffle when the brand was known as Alpha Hydrox.

Pros:
  • Lightweight cream-lotion absorbs quickly into skin.
  • Contains 12% AHA at a pH that ensures exfoliation.
  • Packaged in a container that protects its light- and air-sensitive ingredients.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • None.
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: No

Enhanced Revitalizing Cream is formulated with 12% Glycolic AHA which works by gently releasing dead skin cells allowing new, fresh, healthier skin to come to the surface.

Water, Glycolic Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Stearic Acid, PEG-40 Stearate, C 12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Polysorbate 60, Steareth 2, Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein (Peptide), Green Tea Extract, Panthanol (Vitamin B5), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Xanthan Gum, PVM/MA Decadiene Crosspolymer, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, BHT.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Skin Care (formerly Alpha Hydrox) recently got an impressive image update. Along with a new name, they've also revamped their products. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Skin Care has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery.

Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Skin Care for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.
