Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation On-the-Go
You've probably seen "cushion" foundations showing up at cosmetic counters and shelves and now Maybelline jumps into the game with its Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation On-The-Go. This option from Maybelline offers a rather impressive take on the trend, especially when measured against similar foundations that cost three times as much!
For the uninitiated, cushion foundations are liquid foundations placed in a compact container with a spongey top in such a way that they don't drip out. They present an alternative way to use liquid foundation, and can be applied with whichever tool you prefer.
Dream Cushion bypasses the fragrance or fragrance ingredients that are included in some other cushion foundations. It comes with a small sponge and is a dream (pun intended!) to blend. This formula melds seamlessly into skin for light-to-medium coverage of dark circles, redness, and other imperfections. It sets to a demi-matte finish that's best for those with normal to combination skin.
For the most part, it wears remarkably well, looking skin-like for several hours without fading. Towards the end of its wear time (about a standard work day) there's some slight creasing that tends to emphasize wrinkles, though you can buff this out to mitigate the issue somewhat.
As far as color selection goes, this comes in a small but good range of shades of natural-looking options for fair to medium-deep skin tones.
With the exception of the creasing, Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation On-The-Go is an impressive option. If you're looking to experiment with cushion foundations, it's a worthy consideration!
- Easy to apply and blend.
- Melds seamlessly into skin for light-to-medium coverage of imperfections.
- Natural-looking demi-matte finish.
- Wears well without fading.
- Fragrance free.
- Creases slightly during its wear time.
Maybelline New York At-A-Glance
Strengths: At least one excellent product (if not several) in almost every category; many excellent foundations; superior mascaras; inexpensive makeup brushes; some terrific concealers, powders, blush, and lip color options.
Weaknesses: Lips balms tend to be a letdown; a few of the Great Lash mascaras are surprisingly average compared to other Maybelline formulas.
Maybelline is one of the best-known and most recognized mass-market makeup lines in the worldit's available in 90 countries. Throughout its long history, which began in 1915 when T. L. Wilson founded the company and named it after his sister, Mabel, and Vaseline (which he combined with coal dust to concoct a mascara for her), the company has prided itself on bringing innovative products to the marketplace. L'Oreal purchased the company in early 1996, and that's when things really started coming together for the Maybelline brand.
Specializing in a large selection of lipsticks, nail polishes, and mascaras, there is a lot to love from this drugstore brand. Many of their foundations are exceptional, and their powders, several mascaras, pencils, matte-finish concealers, and Superstay Lipcolor collection impressed us by offering a high degree of quality for their inexpensive price point.
Maybelline's latest urban image is a positive step, as many of their latest launches have been innovative without resorting to "been-there, done-that" gimmicks. Smart shoppers will note the similarities of a few of Maybellines formulas to products from high-end brands that are also owned by parent company LOreal. That just goes to show conscientious shopping can really save you moneywithout sacrificing quality or performance.
