Double Wear BB Brush-On Glow BB Highlighter
Lauder takes the trend of BB (Beauty Balm) creams to highlighters with this brush-on product. BB creams are supposed to be special products that treat skin to beneficial ingredients, such as sunscreens, skin-lightening agents, and antioxidants. This highlighter is "BB" in name only, though, as it contains none of those skin-friendly ingredients; it ends up being just a good makeup enhancer.
Actually, this fragrance-free product seems to be a replacement for Lauder's discontinued Ideal Light Brush-On Illuminator. The texture, finish, and performance are similar, and the prices are identical, as is the click pen-style packaging (reminiscent of Yves St. Laurent's signature click pen highlighter, Touche Eclat).
As a highlighter, this product adds a soft-focus effect to skin, sets to a soft matte finish with a hint of sheen, and actually works better when paired with a regular concealer (the highlighter is applied afterward). You can dab it on to highlight under the eyes, the brow bone, or bridge of the nose. There are five shades, and all worth a look, particularly if your skin tone is in the light to medium range.
The one drawback is that this product's finish can feel drying and has a tendency to emphasize lines and crepe-y skin around the eyes.
- Fragrance-free, lightweight formula is easy to blend.
- Adds a subtle, soft-focus effect to skin.
- Ably highlights shadowed areas.
- Good range of shades.
- The finish can look and feel a bit drying, emphasizing lines or crepe-y skin around the eyes.
- Doesn't contain skin-beneficial ingredients such as antioxidants and skin-repairing ingredients.
Estee Lauder At-A-Glance
The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.
The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.
When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
