Brand Overview

Anastasia Beverly Hills is well-known for her brow products and the reputation is well deserved because most of them are excellent. But sadly, Dipbrow Gel isn’t one of them, although we concede this product will have its fans.

What’s so tricky about this tinted brow gel is one of it selling points, that being it’s highly pigmented. The standard spoolie-type brush deposits a lot of color--so much that with one pass we felt our brows looked too intense and immediately had to grab a clean brush to soften the effect. Applying this over another tinted brow product, such as pencil or powder, only amplifies this effect.

You need to work fast with Dipbrow Gel because it sets quickly, and once that happens you’re pretty much stuck with the results. Although the formula is waterproof as claimed, we found it slightly prone to flaking during wear. Still, you will definitely need an oil- or silicone-based makeup remover to get it all off, and you’ll need to use pressure, which can stress the skin beneath and around brows (not good).

On the plus side, Dipbrow Gel comes in a great range of shades representing all natural brow hair colors from blonde to black, including options for redheads. This is one of the positive hallmarks of Anastasia Beverly Hills, so you don’t need to put up with this one’s issues to get and maintain beautifully defined brows.

Note that this comes in a standard size (which is the price and size in this review) and a less expensive mini size, which has a mini brush.

  • Long-wearing formula.
  • An abundance of colors!
  • Doesn’t make brows feel stiff or sticky.
  • Waterproof as claimed.
  • Fragrance free.
  • Its selling point of strong color likely to be a drawback for many.
  • Most will find the color needs instant softening to avoid a harsh look.
  • Some of the shades apply unevenly, depositing “dots” of color.
  • Slightly prone to flaking during wear.
  • Requires extra effort/pressure to remove.

Anastasia Beverly Hills At-a-Glance

The Anastasia Beverly Hills product line was developed by "definitive eyebrow expert" Anastasia Soare, a woman who owns a chic Beverly Hills salon and has styled and shaped the brows of a number of celebrities. Though her namesake product line features lip, cheek, and complexion products, what sets the brand apart is the wide selection of brow-grooming products and their impressive shade range for natural-looking brows. Many of the products cater to those who are new to brow shaping (including a brow stencil set), and, depending on your local department store, you may even be able to schedule an appointment with an Anastasia brow specialist who can show you the way, following the company founder's famous Golden Ratio.
