DermaSeries Dry Skin Relief Replenishing Hand Cream
When it comes to taking care of our skin, a lot of us neglect our hands, in part because hand creams tend to be so emollient that it makes touching things after applying them tricky, if not annoying. Not so with Dove's DermaSeries Dry Skin Relief Replenishing Hand Cream!
Housed in a slim squeeze tube, this product, though labeled as a cream, instead has a lightweight lotion texture. The fragrance-free moisturizer instantly hydrates dry, cracked hands, but also absorbs very quickly. Within a few seconds it sinks in, leaving a slightly satiny feeling behind, but no greasiness at all.
The ingredient list is solid, with emollients, skin-replenishing ingredients, and even some antioxidants in the mix. There are hand creams with more well-rounded formulas, but none that sink in quite as quickly as this one. That fast drying time is likely to encourage more frequent application, which is part of the key to helping heal dry hands.
All in all, and especially considering its price, if you've been shying away from hand creams because you've been worried they're too greasy, this is the one to try. Do keep in mind that during the day, hands needs sun protection, so remember to layer this hand cream under your favorite broad-spectrum sunscreen or reserve use of this for nighttime .
- Instantly hydrates dry, cracked hands.
- Absorbs quickly with no greasy feel.
- Contains emollients, skin-replenishing ingredients, and some antioxidants.
- Fragrance free.
Strengths: Inexpensive; available in every major drugstore and mass-market store; some very good body washes.
Weaknesses: The Beauty Bars are not as bad as true soaps, but all bar cleansers present problems for skin.
From its beginnings in the 1940s with its still-available original Beauty Bar, Dove has expanded and the curiously curtailed its selection of skin-care products to the point where their facial care offerings are back to nothing more than bar cleansers.
Although their Beauty Bars have their share of problems (such as containing drying ingredients and not rinsing well), they're better than traditional bar soap. However, if you can get past your propensity for bar cleansers, neighboring lines at the drugstore offer better, gentler, water soluble cleansers (the kind Dove has offered in the past).
Where Dove holds sway at the drugstore is with its vast selection of body washes. Although the formulas often differ only by fragrance, for the most part they are excellent, affordable options, especially for normal to dry skin. The body washes in their men's line aren't quite as elegant as those in the main line, and guys should know their skin will do just fine with Dove's regular body washes.
Note: All Dove products contain fragrance unless otherwise noted.
