Brand Overview

If you’re curious about BB creams, Lauder’s contribution to the trend is one of the better options to try. However, it must be said that BB creams typically hold no advantage over other foundations or tinted moisturizers that contain extra ingredients such as antioxidants. Antioxidants are plentiful in this formula, and you also get reliable broad-spectrum sun protection. Ultimately, think of BB creams as tinted moisturizers with a smattering of other skin-friendly ingredients. They do not reduce or prevent blemishes.

The texture dispenses quite thick, but once you blend it softens and smoothes easily over skin, providing sheer to light coverage and a soft matte finish that looks natural.

Best for normal to oily skin and suitable for breakout-prone skin, this fragranced BB cream comes in two warm-toned shades. Light is too dark for fair skin but suitable for light to light-medium skin tones; Medium is acceptable for its intended skin tone.

A few of the plant extracts in the formula pose a slight risk of irritation, but for the most part they’re outweighed by the number of beneficial ingredients this DayWear product contains. Nonetheless, as the degree of fragrance is iffy, it's just shy of earning our top rating.

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
