Brand Overview

Estee Lauder's Crescent White Full Cycle Brightening UV Protector SPF 50 does what any good daytime moisturizer with broad spectrum should do: Shield skin from the sun's wrinkle- and brown spot-causing rays as it hydrates and provides an impressive mix of anti-aging ingredients. This is a slam dunk easy recommendation for those with normal to dry or combination skin!

One of the things we love most about this daytime moisturizer with SPF is how smooth and moisturizing it feels on skin, yet still lightweight. It's absolutely an SPF product we think you'll look forward to applying—and that's the point, right?

The easy-to-apply formula leaves a brightening, non-sparkling glow on skin that instantly enlivens a dull complexion, plus this serves as a great base for makeup—no primer necessary! You'll find it hydrates without feeling slick or greasy, though if you have slightly oily areas the level of moisture and radiant finish probably won't be to your liking. However, the lightweight yet smoothing nature of this formula makes it an intriguing option for those with dry(-ish) skin that's also prone to breakouts.

However, those with extra-sensitive skin may want to think twice about trying this. The sunscreen actives are non-mineral, and while that's fine for most people, actives such as avobenzone and homosalate aren't necessarily ideal for extra-sensitive skin, especially not when coupled with the fragrance this Crescent White product also contains.

To Lauder's credit, the amount of fragrance is low enough so as not to be overpowering (nor does it linger), but no question this would be even better had fragrance been left out.

If you're looking for a lightweight yet moisturizing daytime SPF product that provides broad spectrum protection, antioxidants, repairing ingredients, and anti-irritants (all of which deliver anti-aging benefits), then Crescent White Full Cycle Brightening UV Protector SPF 50 should be on your short list to test. We loved how it felt, how well it worked under makeup, and the soft, radiant glow it adds to skin. Last but not least, the opaque tube packaging plays its part in keeping this product's light- and air-sensitive ingredients stable during use (thank you, Estee Lauder, for not packaging this in jar!).

Pros:
  • Provides broad spectrum sun protection.
  • Contains a good mix of antioxidants and repairing ingredients.
  • Anti-irritants reduce the chance of the sunscreen actives causing a sensitized reaction.
  • Lightweight cream formula leaves a beautiful glow without feeling greasy.
  • Easy to apply and works well under makeup.
Cons:
  • Contains problematic fragrance, but in a low enough concentration to warrant our top rating.
Jar Packaging: No
Tested on animals: Yes

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
