Brand Overview

Estee Lauder's Courrèges Super Gloss packs a vivid punch of magenta color and "notice me" glossy shine for dramatic impact on lips. Its unique, modern-looking packaging features a metal applicator that feels cool on lips. While not everyone will find the unconventional applicator preferable, it's at least easier to work with than its sister product is, the Courrèges Lip Visor.

The fact that Courrèges Super Gloss only comes in a single shade means it won't suit everyone, and the bright, nearly opaque hue certainly isn't for the color-shy; however, if you're looking for high-impact color and shine, Super Gloss delivers.

The slanted, tapered metal applicator works OK for applying the intensely pigmented gloss, but a brush or doe-foot applicator would offer more precision and flexibility. (FYI-To dispense more product you simply push down on the applicator's base.)

As for the performance of the gloss itself, you get a comfortably smooth feel (not sticky) for the duration of wear (a couple to a few hours), plus a hint of color that is left behind as it wears off. The formula is fragranced but quickly dissipates.

By the way, if you're curious what the Courrèges part of this gloss' name is all about, it's in reference to Estee Lauder's collaboration with fashion designer Andres Courrèges (famous for his futuristic designs in the 60's).

Marketing fluff aside, Estee Lauder's Courrèges Super Gloss isn't a bad product, but it lacks versatility in regards to the fact it comes in a singular shade of magenta—and its inflexible applicator may not be everyone's cup of tea. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of the color, it's worth a shot; otherwise see our Best Lip Glosses list.

  • If vivid magenta color + high-shine are what you're after, this delivers.
  • Offers comfortably smooth wear and leaves behind a hint of color as it wears off.
  • Some may find the metal applicator too rigid.
  • The singular shade isn't for everyone.

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
