Continuous Moisture Eye Cream
This fragrance-free eye cream is among the better-formulated products Anthony Logistics offers, and it has what it takes to make dry skin around the eyes look and feel better. Despite that, most eye creams aren't necessary. We know that may surprise you, but as we explain in More Info, it's the truth (and guys, that means one less product to use!).
Although the majority of ingredients in this eye cream are beneficial for skin, one of them isn't, and it brings the overall rating down to POOR. The culprit is arnica extract, and it's one of those ingredients that can be helpful in some scenarios, but a problem in others. For example, research shows that when arnica is taken orally before surgery it reduces inflammation and reduces bruising (Source: Archives of Facial and Plastic Surgery, January–February 2006, pages 54–59). However, it is repeatedly stated in all herbal journals we consult that arnica should not be applied to abraded skin because it is a significant skin irritant. The PDR Family Guide to Natural Medicines & Healing Therapies says: "Repeated contact with cosmetics containing arnica can cause itching, blisters, ulcers, and dead skin" (Sources: International Federation of Aromatherapists [IFA], www.int-fed-aromatherapy.co.uk; and Experimental Dermatology, November 2010, pages 1007–1013). Arnica also is associated with a high incidence of skin sensitization (Source: American Journal of Contact Dermatitis, June 1996, pages 94–99).
- Fragrance-free, which is always better for skin.
- Contains some good moisturizing and skin-repairing ingredients.
- Not as pricey as most eye creams.
- Arnica extract is a problematic ingredient and one that's not recommended for use around the eyes.
Why You May Not Need an Eye Cream
Most eye creams aren't necessary. That's either because they are poorly formulated, contain nothing special for the eye area, or come in packaging that won't keep key ingredients stable. Just because the product is labeled as an eye cream doesn't mean it's good for your eye area; in fact, many can actually make matters worse.
There is much you can do to improve signs of aging around your eyes. Any product loaded with antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, skin-lightening ingredients, anti-inflammatory ingredients, and effective emollients will work wonders and those ingredients don't have to come from a product labeled as an eye cream.
You would be shocked how many eye creams lack even the most basic ingredients to help skin. For example, most eye creams don't contain sunscreen. During the day that is a serious problem because it leaves the skin around your eyes vulnerable to sun damage and this absolutely will make dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles worse!
Whatever product you put around your eye area, regardless of what it is labeled, must be well formulated and appropriate for the skin type around your eyes! That may mean you need an eye cream, but you may also do just as well applying your regular facial moisturizer around your eyes.
Jojoba oil, shea butter and squalane provide deep skin hydration; vitamins A, C and E protect, firm and help diminish fine lines and dark circles. Cucumber extract soothes. Carrot root adds elasticity and tones.
Strengths: The self-tanner is a cut above the norm; good lip balm with sunscreen.
Weaknesses: Like most men's lines, Anthony Logistics products often contain irritating ingredients that hurt rather than help skin; terrible shaving and post-shave products; expensive body washes with basic formulas; impossible to assemble a complete skin-care routine without exposing skin to several problematic ingredients.
There really is an Anthony behind the Anthony Logistics brand, Anthony Sosnick, who began this men's line in 2000. In some ways, the brand opened up a whole new world of skin care for guys, because it went beyond the soap/shave/aftershave routine that for years was the only widespread option for men's grooming.
Now sold at major retailers, such as Sephora, Ulta, and numerous men's salons throughout the United States, Anthony Logistics offers men's skin care from head to toe. As impressive as that is, there's a catch: Most of the products contain one or more irritating ingredients that won't lead a man to his best-looking, healthiest skin. In that sense, Anthony Logistics differs little from almost every other men's product line, and that's a shame because clearly this brand has some good potential (and good intentions).
According to the company, their products are formulated with ingredients specific to a man's skin, but that claim is completely bogus. The fact is there are no special ingredients men need that women don't and vice versa. Yes, there are some differences between men's and women's skin but those differences don't have anything to do with how you take care of your skin. Sun damage, wrinkles, acne, rosacea, dry skin, oily skin, large pores, and on and on should be treated the same way, regardless of your gender. Men's products don't need to be stronger, because all stronger typically means is more irritating, and no one's skin needs that!
As mentioned above, most of the Anthony Logistics products contain ingredients that are extremely problematic for anyone's skin. Ingredients like alcohol, peppermint, eucalyptus, and many of the other irritants strewn throughout this line are seriously bad for skin. (Guys, skin care isn't about portraying a tough "no pain, no gain" mentality.) The limited number of well-formulated products makes this a less than logical line for any man.
