Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation
Powder foundations are making a comeback, and the good news is they're better than ever before. Tarte's Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation demonstrates what's best about this new generation, though it doesn't quite earn our highest rating.
This fragrance-free foundation comes in a gold mirrored compact with a bouncy, pliable sponge that effectively picks up and deposits makeup. True to the name, the texture is creamy and blendable. Coverage starts out on the light side, but it's easy to build up to full coverage.
Speaking of that coverage, though it might be full it isn't cakey or overdone. Instead, this foundation blurs imperfections, covering redness and dark spots with a natural-looking demi-matte finish.
Though the formula isn't drying, this is best for those with normal, combination, and oily skin. People with dry to very dry skin will find that they'll need more moisture for this to feel comfortable throughout the day.
Performance-wise we found this held up admirably throughout an 8-hour workday without fading or emphasizing fine lines or dry spots. Like most of Tarte's complexion makeup, it boasts a good range of natural-looking shades for light to medium skin tones.
In fact, the only ding against this foundation doesn't come from how it works, but what it claims. Tarte states this has skincare benefits and anti-aging ingredients, but two peptides are the only anti-aging ingredients present, and they're at the very end of the ingredient list. This doesn't take away from this foundation's performance, it's just something to note if you were hoping to get a skincare boost from it!
- Creamy, blendable texture.
- Full coverage that's natural-looking, not cakey.
- Wears well throughout the day.
- Natural-looking shades.
- Fragrance free.
- Anti-aging and moisturizing claims are overstated.
Tarte Cosmetics At-A-Glance
Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly started Tarte in 1999, out of a desire to create a cosmetics line that would prove that glamour can be good for you. This comes in the form of products that highlight naturally-derived ingredients in their marketing campaigns, and occasionally taking swipes at the concept of synthetics in makeup.
This is ironic, as Tarte uses more than a few beneficial synthetically derived ingredients in their formulassilicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives and on and on. However, well forgive them that as whats ultimately important is whether their products meet your needs, and to that we can say the brand excels in many areas at what they do.
However, a few products are a bit on the pricey side and there are a few iffy shades and textures to consider among their foundationsnoted in their respective reviews. A few caveats aside, most of Tarte's foundations, blush options, eye pencils and an ever-expanding range of innovative products demonstrate that color is what they do best.
