Brand Overview

Those who love a powder foundation will see why It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation is an award-winning best-seller. It provides lightweight, full coverage that lasts for hours. Best of all, it offers broad spectrum sunscreen—a coup for those who like a barely-there feeling but want the benefit of sun protection.

Sadly, however, this one looked a bit chalky not just on dry skin, but also on oily and combination skin. It tended to emphasize deeper lines—a problem that increased when we used a sponge rather than a brush, hoping for fuller coverage. We did find easy workarounds for these problems, though: An alcohol-free setting spray smoothed out the chalkiness, but such sprays can break down sunscreen—and no one wants to feel like they're cancelling out the anti-aging benefits of a product. We also tried the foundation over an SPF primer, which kept it from settling into fine lines—but it still needed a setting spray for an even, natural look: that "my natural skin, but better" effect the best powder foundations achieve.

You'll most likely have the best experience if you use a brush, which provides less coverage but still creates a more refined, perfected complexion. This powder foundation is also a great way to double up on the sun protection in your daytime moisturizer. We also think it's worth noting that the brand's Celebration "Illumination" compact has a more natural-looking finish. That one we loved, and this one we liked. (Though in both cases, the shade range is quite limited.)

Also keep in mind that while IT Cosmetics touts the anti-aging ingredients in this compact, most of them won't remain stable. With every use, these delicate ingredients will be exposed to light and air, which reduces their effectiveness.

IT Cosmetics (the IT stands for Innovative Technology) is the creation of Jamie Kern Lima, a former Miss USA pageant contestant and TV news anchor. Lima founded IT Cosmetics in 2008, selling her products in boutique stores and on QVC, then expanding into Canada in 2009. Since then, the line has gotten a lot of exposure with featured reports and stories on network television, including prominent mentions on the ABC reality show Dancing With the Stars.

The labels on most IT Cosmetics products reveal a variety of age-defying claims centered around ingredients like antioxidants, peptides, vitamins, and collagen. Those are indeed great additions to any cosmetic product, but unfortunately, the combination of compact or jar packaging among the formulas that include those helpful ingredients isnt a good thing.

Air exposure compromises ingredients like antioxidants and peptides, rendering them useless. While that doesnt affect the quality of the makeup, it is worth noting if you were hoping for an anti-aging edge from IT Cosmetics antioxidant-boosted blush or powders.

Of course, IT Cosmetics does have products that are absolutely worth checking out. The line boasts an excellent range of color products, highlighters, foundations and many more worth consideration. As with any line that has a mix of standouts and caveats, shopping using our reviews to guide you is a great way to ensure youll at least get your moneys worth, and your skin will be the better for it.
