Brand Overview
With several IT Cosmetic products, the formula seems to be two steps forward, three steps back. CC Eye Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream SPF 50 is a great example: This creamy concealer is easy to blend, provides good (although not full) coverage, plus gentle, mineral-based broad spectrum sun protection, all in an attractive range of shades for fair to tan skin tones. What's not to like? Keep reading to find out…
No doubt, this concealer ups the ante on anti-aging ingredients, from peptides to antioxidants. That's good! What disappoints is the inclusion of citrus oils that could cause what's known as a phototoxic reaction. IT Cosmetics also includes potentially irritating ingredients like eucalyptus oil and cinnamon bark—what are those doing in a product designed for use around the eyes? See More Info for details on the problems phototoxic and known irritants can cause.
Doubly disappointing: The problematic ingredients mentioned above are present in higher concentrations than most of the anti-aging ingredients gracing this formula.
Last, as stated above, this brightening concealer doesn't provide full coverage as claimed. Even when layered, the coverage never gets past medium, and this has a tendency to crease into lines around the eyes. But no matter, because this is ultimately a concealer we cannot recommend. See our list of Best Concealers for better bets.
- Creamy texture is easy to blend
- Provides broad spectrum protection.
- Respectable range of shades for light to dark skin tones.
- Contains citrus oils known to aggravate skin.
- The citrus oils could cause a reaction in sunlight that makes discoloration around the eyes worse.
- Eucalyptus oil + cinnamon bark extract can sensitize skin.
- Absolutely not recommended for use around the eyes.
- Doesn't provide full coverage as claimed.
Skin-Sensitizing Ingredients: We cannot stress this enough: Sensitizing, harsh, abrasive, or fragrant ingredients are bad for all skin types. Daily application of skincare products that contain these types of skin-aggravating ingredients is a major way we unknowingly do our skin a disservice!
Sensitizing ingredients are a problem because they can lead to visible problems that include redness, rough skin, dull skin, dryness, increases in oil production, clogged pores, and contribute to making signs of aging worse.
Switching to non-irritating, gentle skincare products can make all the difference in the world. Non-irritating skincare products are those packed with beneficial ingredients that also replenish and soothe skin without any volatility, including those present in natural fragrant ingredients.
A surprising fact: Even though you might not see the negative influence of using products that contain sensitizing ingredients, skin the damage will still be taking place. It doesn't need to be evident on the surface! Research has demonstrated that you don't always need to see or feel the effects on your skin for your skin to be suffering the impact and the visible damage may not become apparent for a long time.
For this reason, it's best to eliminate, or minimize as much as possible, your exposure to ingredients that can be sensitizing on skin. There are many products that contain effective ingredients that are also completely non-irritating so there's no reason to put your skin at risk with products that include ingredients research has shown can be a problem.

Strengths: Excellent color products, standout foundation and concealer options, impressive highlighters.
Weaknesses: Can be on the pricey side; has a few makeup products with exaggerated anti-aging claims.
IT Cosmetics (the IT stands for Innovative Technology) is the creation of Jamie Kern Lima, a former Miss USA pageant contestant and TV news anchor. Lima founded IT Cosmetics in 2008, selling her products in boutique stores and on QVC, then expanding into Canada in 2009. Since then, the line has gotten a lot of exposure with featured reports and stories on network television, including prominent mentions on the ABC reality show Dancing With the Stars.
The labels on most IT Cosmetics products reveal a variety of age-defying claims centered around ingredients like antioxidants, peptides, vitamins, and collagen. Those are indeed great additions to any cosmetic product, but unfortunately, the combination of compact or jar packaging among the formulas that include those helpful ingredients isnt a good thing.
Air exposure compromises ingredients like antioxidants and peptides, rendering them useless. While that doesnt affect the quality of the makeup, it is worth noting if you were hoping for an anti-aging edge from IT Cosmetics antioxidant-boosted blush or powders.
Of course, IT Cosmetics does have products that are absolutely worth checking out. The line boasts an excellent range of color products, highlighters, foundations and many more worth consideration. As with any line that has a mix of standouts and caveats, shopping using our reviews to guide you is a great way to ensure youll at least get your moneys worth, and your skin will be the better for it.
