Brow Drama Pro Palette
Maybelline claims their Brow Drama Pro Palette comes with "everything you need for brow perfection," including a tinted sculpting wax, brow powder, and highlighting powder in one palette. The good news is the brow powder does its job well. The bad news is the sculpting wax and highlighter leave something to be desired. Brow perfection? Not quite.
First, let's talk shades. Brow Drama Pro Palette comes in tones of "Blonde", "Soft Brown" and "Deep Brown", as well as an "Auburn" shade. Maybelline did a good with the brow powder shades, picking flattering hues with a nice compromise of pigmentation that isn't too sheer nor harsh. Overall, the powder looks natural and its texture allows for smooth, buildable color. Applied on own, it's not enough to look convincing on very sparse brows, but it works well for brows that just need a bit of added density.
The sculpting wax, on the other hand, we can't speak so highly of. While it appears to come in a complementary shade to the powder, the wax imparts little to no pigment so you can't count on it to fill in brow hairs. If the consistency were tenacious enough to sculpt unruly brow hairs into place that would be forgivable, but it isn't, so this part of the palette becomes less useful. The only purpose we found for the wax was to apply it throughout brows as a base for the brow powder to adhere to. In that sense it does an Ok job, though it doesn't make a huge difference one way or the other.
On to the highlighter: The highlighting powder in each set offers a pale cream color with a slight pink undertone, but don't expect much pigmentation from it. It goes on very sheer and the shimmer is so slight that you can hardly see it. Maybelline could have done better here.
As far as the included tools go, each works for its intended purpose though due to their small size you may find you prefer your own. At the very least, it's nice that you can use them in a pinch (one side of the double-ended brush for the wax, the other side for the powder, and the spoolie brush to smooth things out and brush hairs into place).
Overall, we landed on an average rating for Brow Drama Pro Palette. While the sculpting wax and highlighter give a lackluster performance, the brow powder is the redeeming factor. Whether or not that makes this kit worth purchasing is up to you, but for those who struggle to find a natural-looking brow powder it might be worth considering. Maybelline New York At-A-Glance
Strengths: At least one excellent product (if not several) in almost every category; many excellent foundations; superior mascaras; inexpensive makeup brushes; some terrific concealers, powders, blush, and lip color options.
Weaknesses: Lips balms tend to be a letdown; a few of the Great Lash mascaras are surprisingly average compared to other Maybelline formulas.
Maybelline is one of the best-known and most recognized mass-market makeup lines in the worldit's available in 90 countries. Throughout its long history, which began in 1915 when T. L. Wilson founded the company and named it after his sister, Mabel, and Vaseline (which he combined with coal dust to concoct a mascara for her), the company has prided itself on bringing innovative products to the marketplace. L'Oreal purchased the company in early 1996, and that's when things really started coming together for the Maybelline brand.
Specializing in a large selection of lipsticks, nail polishes, and mascaras, there is a lot to love from this drugstore brand. Many of their foundations are exceptional, and their powders, several mascaras, pencils, matte-finish concealers, and Superstay Lipcolor collection impressed us by offering a high degree of quality for their inexpensive price point.
Maybelline's latest urban image is a positive step, as many of their latest launches have been innovative without resorting to "been-there, done-that" gimmicks. Smart shoppers will note the similarities of a few of Maybellines formulas to products from high-end brands that are also owned by parent company LOreal. That just goes to show conscientious shopping can really save you moneywithout sacrificing quality or performance.
