Brand Overview
Glossier's Boy Brow is among the brand's more popular products and it's easy to see why: It's a straightforward yet effective product that works exactly as claimed!
Boy Brow is basically an eyebrow mousse that comes in a small, mascara-type tube with a spoolie brush. The mousse itself is less airy than typical mousse formulas; it's a bit more fluid, but easy to brush through brows without making a mess.
The color is initially sheer, with the purpose of enhancing brows without making them appear overly dramatic, but you can build it up for a stronger color impact. The finish of this mousse is soft, so brows feel conditioned without getting crunchy or stiff, yet they stay in place all day long.
Once applied, which is surprisingly easy, the effect is a "your brows but better" look, in that hairs are kept in place and sparse areas are made to look fuller while still appearing natural. Although not the least expensive option available, it's absolutely among the better "brow mascaras" on the market.
The only drawback is that it comes in a limited shade range right now, though there is also a clear (colorless) option available. Boy Brow gets the job done!
- Easy to brush on and style brows.
- Sheer yet buildable color.
- Mousse holds brows in place all day without feeling crunchy or stiff.
- Produces groomed yet natural-looking eyebrows.
- Limited shade range.
Glossier At-A-Glance
Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss, whose successful beauty blog IntoTheGloss.com inspired the spinoff skin care/makeup line launched in 2014. Weiss describes the concept behind Glossier as a lifestyle beauty brand with a highly edited selection of streamlined skin care and makeup products.
We consider Glossier's makeup the strong suit of the brand. Their tagline of uncomplicated makeup staples that live with you, not on you, rings true with their simple yet impressive lineup of color products. Each is intentionally designed as a low maintenance option to enhance your appearance but not overpower it, allowing your natural beauty to shine through. By and large, the makeup products perform well, and while the shade options aren't vast, we're impressed by the flattering, attractive colors they've curated.
Glossier's skin care fares a little lower on the rating scale. While the majority of formulas are decent, they tend to be lackluster in terms of a well-researched cocktail of beneficial ingredients. Not bad, but not great either. Aesthetically-speaking, the skincare products stick to their reoccurring promise of dewy, glowy looking skin.
We're happy to report the majority of Glossier's skin care and makeup products are fragrance free, which is a rarity in the cosmetics industry and better overall for the health of your skin.
To sum it up: Skin care-wise there's room for improvement, but if you like the minimalist approach and cool girl vibe, Glossier makeup delivers. We're intrigued to see what they come up with next!
