Brand Overview

The lip lacquer name may conjure up thoughts of drying or sticky wear, but Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer is different. The creamy gloss texture goes on velvety smooth and has a moisturizing feel. Once the top layer and shiny finish wears off (an hour or so later), lips are left with an even stain of color.

The collection offers a wide range of shades to complement a variety of skin tones and preferences. There are trendy, vibrant, classic, or neutral hues to choose from, each of which offer high-shine and rich pigmentation. Some of the shades go on more intensely than you might expect, especially as they oxidize to a deeper pigment over the course of wear. For that reason, we highly recommend testing colors before you buy.

Take heed: Long Wear Lip Lacquer’s glossiness has the propensity to feather into the outer lip lines (especially if you slather it on), and the oddly shaped sponge-tip applicator doesn’t exactly help you apply within the lip line, either.

Nevertheless, Long Wear Lip Lacquer’s lightly flavored formula has enough else going for it that it’s worth checking out (if you don’t mind the price). Muah!

Pros:

  • Non-sticky, creamy gloss texture goes on velvety smooth.
  • Leaves a stain of color that lasts for several hours.
  • Wide range of shades complements a variety of skin tones and preferences.
  • Doesn’t feel drying like some long-wear lip lacquers can.

Cons:

  • Glossy color may feather into lines around your mouth.
  • Oddly shaped tip isn’t as conducive to precise application.

Smashbox At-A-Glance

Two interesting things about Smashbox are that its name refers to the early, accordion-style cameras and that Smashbox is first and foremost a Hollywood-based photography studio. The company's creators, Dean and Davis Factor, have their heritage in makeuptheir great-grandfather was the legendary makeup artist Max Factor. The makeup, which debuted in 1996, began as a collection of trendy and fashion-forward colors coupled with a pleasingly neutral palette of foundations, concealers, and powders. Nowadays, there are exceptional options to choose from, but also some color products that fall short due to too sheer formulas or other issues noted in their respective reviews.

Where Smashbox has lived up to their Hollywood makeup pedigree is with a few standout formulas, including impressive lip products as well as excellent foundations, BB and CC cream options. Of course, the brand is also well-known for their range of makeup primerswhether thats a necessary step is up for debatebut nevertheless they do offer a few products in this category that are worth considering.
