Brand Overview

Whether used as a gentle body wash for baby or yourself, or as a shampoo, this is a very good, fragrance-free body cleanser for all skin types. It’s a particularly good choice for babies due to its mild formula. Babies don’t get too dirty (spit-up and food spills don’t count), and this does the job without stripping delicate skin.

For adults, this wash may prove too mild, especially if you have oily skin or, for example, breakouts on the body. In those instances, a more thorough body cleanser will be needed. On balance, this would be best for babies and adults with extra-sensitive skin. It rinses without a residue and produces a light lather, though don’t count on the ceramides sticking around, as they’ll be rinsed down the drain.

We should stress that the fragrance-free feature is incredibly exciting, because the majority of baby washes are loaded with fragrance.  It has a strong pull for adults (who doesn’t love a sweet-smelling baby?) but fragrance can be a strong source of irritation for baby’s tender skin.

Last, as a shampoo, this is great for babies but not advisable for adults who have oily scalps, use styling products, or have any sort of hair or scalp buildup needing removal.

Note: CeraVe’s claim that this is sulfate-free is true, though sulfates as used in cleansing products pose no documented risk to baby’s skin (though like most cleansing agents, they will sting if they get in the eyes).

Pros:

  • Gentle, fragrance-free formula is well suited to babies.
  • Works as a body wash for adults with extra-sensitive skin, too!
  • Cleanses head to toe without leaving a residue.

Cons:

  • A bit on the pricey side for a baby wash.

CeraVe At-A-Glance

This expanding collection of skincare products keeps things gentle and effective with fragrance-free formulas, many of which are more state-of-the-art than any other product in its price range or pricier versions at the drugstore. In short, this line is a real find!

CeraVe uses a delivery system the company refers to as Multivesicular Emulsion Technology, which releases key ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid over a period of several hours. Although this technology is undoubtedly helpful, such time-delayed delivery systems aren't unique to CeraVe, and the fact remains that most of the ingredients they use are very helpful on their own, no matter what delivery system you use.

The important point is that ongoing, consistent use of this kind of moisturizer designed to repair the skin's barrier function will result in smoother, softer, healthier skin.

It is for these reasons that most CeraVe products are definitely worth considering, especially at this price. You'll find a options for moisturizing, cleansing, broad spectrum sun protection, and baby care.
