Brand Overview

Tarte’s Baba Bomb Moisturizer is bursting with emollients that bathe parched skin in reviving moisture. This fragrance-free hydrator is an excellent choice for normal to dry skin anywhere on the face (including around the eyes) and neck.

Housed in a colorful airless jar, which protects its delicate antioxidants from air and light exposure, this moisturizer wins points for feeling rich yet not occlusive, greasy, or heavy. It contains antioxidant-packed, non-fragrant plant oils which play a role in reinforcing skin’s firmness. Among them are olive, babassu, and avocado, the latter being a great source of skin-replenishing fatty acids.

Other antioxidants include green tea (in both oil and extract forms) and ginseng, each contributing to skin’s vitality by helping to defend it against environmental stressors. In turn, this enables skin to look and act younger.

We don’t agree with Tarte’s “weightlessly hydrating” description of this moisturizer--you’ll definitely feel it on skin--but as we mentioned above its lighter than its emollient ingredients would normally deliver, yet loses nothing in terms of its ability to keep skin smooth, moisturized, and comfortable. For the money, this is really well done!

Tarte Cosmetics At-A-Glance

Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly started Tarte in 1999, out of a desire to create a cosmetics line that would prove that glamour can be good for you. This comes in the form of products that highlight naturally-derived ingredients in their marketing campaigns, and occasionally taking swipes at the concept of synthetics in makeup.

This is ironic, as Tarte uses more than a few beneficial synthetically derived ingredients in their formulassilicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives and on and on. However, well forgive them that as whats ultimately important is whether their products meet your needs, and to that we can say the brand excels in many areas at what they do.

However, a few products are a bit on the pricey side and there are a few iffy shades and textures to consider among their foundationsnoted in their respective reviews. A few caveats aside, most of Tarte's foundations, blush options, eye pencils and an ever-expanding range of innovative products demonstrate that color is what they do best.
