Advanced Therapy Lotion SPF 30
This body lotion with sunscreen provides critical UVA protection via stabilized avobenzone, but the overall formula is surprisingly bare bones and not the least bit advanced. It provides minimal hydration and no state-of-the-art ingredients, and your skin needs those substances even if dryness isn't a concern.
This also contains a preservative (methylisothiazolinone) that is contraindicated for use in leave-on products due to its sensitizing potential, as well as rosemary extract, which also can be a skin irritant.
- Provides broad-spectrum sun protection and includes avobenzone for critical UVA protection.
- Lackluster, below-average formula leaves all skin types wanting (and needing) more.
- The preservative methylisothiazolinone is contraindicated for use in leave-on products due to its sensitizing potential.
- Cannot strengthen skin's barrier as claimed (see More Info below for details).
Strengthening skin's barrier (i.e., its surface) requires a range of what's known as skin-identical or skin-repairing ingredients along with protection from the sun. You need both, not one or the other for daytime.
Skin-repairing ingredients occur naturally in the skin, but can become depleted because of sun damage and when the skin's barrier is impaired. When this happens, your skin loses the ability to retain these important ingredients, leading to dryness and its associated symptoms. Examples of skin-repairing ingredients are glycerin, ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, lecithin, and glycosaminoglycans. Although Lubriderm includes glycerin in this product, ideally it should be paired with a range of other beneficial skin-repairing ingredients, too; your skin needs more than just one good ingredient to be healthy.
Mixing skin-repairing ingredients with cell-communicating ingredients and antioxidants is even more ideal for healthier, younger-looking skin, one more reason Lubriderm is not the brand to turn to if you want to see significantly better skin.
Get the extra moisturization and sun protection that your skin needs to be healthy. This non-greasy formula, enriched with Vitamins E & B5 and skin essential lipids naturally found in healthy skin, helps strengthen skin's moisture barrier. It also contains broad-spectrum sunscreen technology that provides superior, long-lasting protection from harmful, skin-aging UVA/UVB rays.
Strengths: Inexpensive; some fragrance-free body lotions; Lubriderm provides complete product ingredient lists on its Web site.
Weaknesses: Mostly outdated formulas that lack a range of skin-repairing ingredients; the body lotion with SPF 15 does not provide sufficient UVA protection; not much distinction between formulas, especially in the Daily Moisture range.
Among body lotion brands, Lubriderm is recognizable at drugstores and grocery stores around the world. Unfortunately, most of their formulas are about as exciting as watching grass grow! Instead of providing dry, itchy skin with a range of state-of-the-art ingredients proven to offer lasting benefits, Lubriderm stops short at the basics, with formulas that echo back to the 1960s.
What Lubriderm leaves out are the ingredients that would supply your skin with a healthy dose of antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, or cell-communicating ingredients. All these types of ingredients can actually "repair" skin, not just put a Band-Aid on the problem of dry skin.
Lubriderm products are not bad, but it's like using a typewriter instead of a computer. Simply put, science has advanced skin care far beyond what Lubriderm formulas provide.
Lubriderm's price point is attractive, but saving money isn't always the end game. Besides, there are other inexpensive brands whose impressive body moisturizer formulas mean you dont have to settle for less.
