Brand Overview

You can ignore the "adult" part of this product's name, because while some dermatologists may refer to a person in their 20s having "adult acne", the causes behind acne are typically the same as when teens deal with acne. Regardless of age, acne almost always has a hormonal component, excess oil and acne-causing bacteria, and other inflammatory factors that conspire to form pimples and pustules.

What's good to know is that this topical disinfectant medicated with 7% benzoyl peroxide, the gold standard ingredient for killing acne-causing bacteria. The fragrance-free base formula has a sheer, lightweight texture that's barely felt and suitable for all skin types.

This missed our top rating due to the basic nature of the formula. It would've been better if OC Eight had included an anti-irritant or two, as these can help make benzoyl peroxide less irritating and also reduce redness from breakouts. Still, this is a very good option to consider, and the 7% concentration is bound to be less potentially drying than the maximum amount approved for over-the-counter use, which is 10%.

Pros:
  • Medicated with the gold standard anti-acne ingredient.
  • Sheer, lightweight formula.
  • Fragrance-free.
Cons:
  • Lacks soothing ingredients to reduce redness and potential irritation from benzoyl peroxide.
