50 MG CBD Moisturizer
e.l.f.’s 50 MG CBD Moisturizer contains some great ingredients, including its namesake cannabidiol (CBD), but the fact that it contains potentially irritating fragrance takes the rating down a notch.
Starting with the positives, 50 MG CBD Moisturizer has a lightweight lotion texture that is dispensed via the opaque, pump bottle. The packaging is important because it helps limit air and light exposure to help keep the formula’s beneficial ingredients potent and stable.
True to claim, this moisturizer’s cannabidiol is backed by research for its soothing effects on skin and ability to halt triggers of inflammation that would otherwise lead to signs of aging. 50 milligrams (which refers to the total amount of CBD per product, not per application) isn’t the highest concentration out there, but it’s still a relatively decent amount (there isn’t yet an agreed-upon standard dose for topical use).
We applaud e.l.f. for including their certificate of analysis to prove their source/concentration of full-spectrum CBD. What’s meant by full-spectrum CBD is that you’re getting cannabidiol along with other cannabinoids, which research has shown work together to deliver greater benefits than CBD alone.
Beyond the CBD, you’re getting plenty of other beneficial ingredients, including antioxidant-rich plant oils and extracts, as well as peptides and hydration-boosting sodium hyaluronate (a derivative of hyaluronic acid). Altogether, it’s a good mix for normal to dry skin.
The one downside is the aforementioned fragrance. We wish e.l.f. would have left that out of the formula like they did for this moisturizer’s companion CBD Eye Cream. While it’s not overly potent, the fragrance poses a risk irritation (read about the potential repercussions via our More Info section below)—hence 50 MG CBD Moisturizer just misses the mark of landing our best CBD skin care list.
- Contains legitimate cannabidiol (CBD) to reduce pro-aging inflammation and soothe skin.
- Peptides and antioxidants amp up the anti-aging benefits.
- Includes sodium hyaluronate for hydration, as well as beneficial plant oils for dry skin.
- Packaged in a way that helps protect the beneficial ingredients.
- Contains potentially irritating fragrance.
Why Fragrance Is a Problem for Skin: Daily use of products that contain a high amount of fragrance, whether the fragrant ingredients are synthetic or natural, causes a chronic sensitizing reaction on skin.
This reaction in turn leads to all kinds of problems, including disrupting skin’s barrier, worsening dryness, increasing or triggering redness, depleting vital substances in skin’s surface, and generally preventing skin from looking healthy, smooth, and hydrated. Fragrance free is always the best way to go for all skin types.
A surprising fact: Even though you can’t always see or feel the negative effects of fragrant ingredients on skin, the damage will still be taking place, even if it’s not evident on the surface. Research has demonstrated that you don’t need to see or feel the effects of irritation for your skin to be suffering. Much like the effects from cumulative sun damage, the negative impact and the visible damage from fragrance may not become apparent for a long time.

Take your time and unwind with this CBD moisturizer known to soothe the skin. Infused with hyaluronic acid and sweet almond oil known to help retain skin’s moisture. Allow your complexion to feel reawakened with fragrance notes of Japanese citrus and chamomile.
e.l.f. (it stands for which stands for Eyes, Lips, Face) was founded by Scott Vincent Borba and Joseph Shamah. The story goes that one day Borba was shopping in a dollar store and noticed women dressed in designer clothing and sporting designer handbags loading up their baskets with inexpensive nail polish, eye pencils, and lip balm. He took note of the products being sold in such stores and quickly decided he could offer products of even higher quality at the same competitive price. His idea paid off, as e.l.f. has enjoyed continued success and increased distribution online and in retail stores.
For a line offering many products for just a dollar (OK, there are plenty that cost $3 and $5, too), there are a surprising number of hits in the mix (especially the makeup brushes). True, not everything is going to be as luxurious or innovative as some higher-end brands, but overall you're likely to be impressed with what they developed for so little money, and you may just find some beauty bargains!
