Brand Overview

Indeed Laboratories 10Balm is designed to tackle skin sensitivity, and we’re glad to say that it gets it right… with one caveat.

This fragrance-free lotion comes in an opaque squeeze tube, and though it’s somewhat thick initially, it smooths out quickly and sinks into skin leaving it immediately softer and smoother, not tacky.

Wondering about the product’s name? Indeed claims the “10Balm” portion of the name comes from 10 of “nature’s most powerful healing ingredients.” Though these ingredients are good – more on that in a moment – there are plenty of others that heal and soothe skin just as well (licorice extract is one example), so those used here aren’t particularly unique.

Still, they include honey, propolis, and royal jelly extracts, which all help hydrate and soothe skin. Additional skin soothers include bisabolol and allantoin, alongside baobob and buriti oils, both moisturizing, non-fragrant, antioxidant-rich plant oils. And we’re happy to say that unlike some other Indeed products, most of the great ingredients are higher on the list than the preservatives.

One note about the arnica extract included here: there’s research showing that when taken orally it can improve sensitivity, and, like all plants, it has antioxidant benefit. However, when used topically on a regular basis it has the potential to cause skin irritation, so we recommend using this product sparingly.

Other than that, this is a good balm/lotion for skin suffering from sensitivity, provided you plan to use it intermittently.

Pros:
  • Includes hydrating, skin-soothing, and moisturizing ingredients.
  • Packaged to protect its light- and air-sensitive ingredients.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • Arnica extract can cause irritation with repeated, frequent use.
Jar Packaging: No

Promising high performance, innovative products, Canada-based Indeed Laboratories is a small, drugstore-sold line specializing in anti-aging-themed products. Their best-known product, and not surprisingly the one we're asked about the most, is Nanoblur. This product is essentially a silicone-based wrinkle filler and pore smoother that works, though no better than many other, similar products. All of these types of products work (temporarily, of course) to improve skin texture and fill imperfections to a degree that they're slightly to moderately less noticeable. Where Nanoblur makes its mark is the price point, which many will find enticing.

This is a line that seeks to avoid fragrance, and that's always to skin's benefit, and their modern-looking packaging will help keep light- and air-sensitive ingredients (like retinol) from degrading. Though the claims of certain products don't always live up to the reality of their ingredients,  if you keep your expectations realistic and don't expect miracles, you're far more likely to come away satisfied.
