Maestro Glow Nourishing Fusion Makeup SPF 30 is an attractive foundation for normal to dry skin, but a few formulary mishaps hold it back. Among its high-points are the hint of radiance it gives, plus seamless coverage. The low-point? Potential irritants in the formula…enough so to cast reasonable doubt on this foundation.
Housed in a glass bottle with dropper, Maestro Glow Nourishing Fusion Makeup SPF 30 has a liquid thin, dual-phase formula that requires shaking before each use. Although the oil-based, waterless foundation feels slick upon initial application, it sets to a soft, powdery finish—partially due to the inclusion of alcohol. But that's where things get a bit murky…
Alcohol in this concentration raises concern as a potential irritant and can inevitably make dry skin worse. Compounding the issue is fragrance ingredients capable of inciting inflammation that could cause skin to age in ways you don't notice until it's too late. (See More Info for details.) For a foundation that claims to "nourish" skin, this potential issue is a step in the wrong direction.
Considering we really did like the hint of glow this foundation gives while remaining natural-looking on skin (plus the broad-spectrum protection), it's a shame Giorgio Armani missed the mark. We found the formula ideal for normal to dry skin, offering long-lasting wear without emphasizing dry patches or fine lines.
Of the nine shades offered at the time of this review, the sheer coverage is adaptable to a variety of fair to deep skin tones and is a cinch to blend.
Were it not for the formulary snafus, this is a foundation would've made its way onto some of our beauty editors' 'best-of'lists. So close Armani, so close!
Inclusion of Known Irritants: Irritation, whether you see it on the surface of your skin or not, causes inflammation and as a result impairs healing, damages collagen, and depletes the vital substances your skin needs to stay young. For this reason, it is best to eliminate, or minimize as much as possible, your exposure to known skin irritants, especially when there are brilliant formulas available that do not include these types of problematic ingredients. Fragrance-free is the best way for all skin types to go for all skin types (Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2008 & American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, 2003)
The sneaky part about irritation is that research has demonstrated that you don't always need to see it or feel it for your skin to suffer damage, and that damage may remain hidden for a long time (Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, 2008).

Giorgio Armani At-A-Glance
Strengths: Outstanding foundations; superb powder textures; a brilliant shimmer fluid; perfect bronzers; some excellent lip color options; a neutral palette makes this line a must-see.
Weaknesses: Expensive; the skincare is underwhelming, especially given the cost (though the claims sound good!); some of the SPF-rated products do not supply adequate broad spectrum protection; most of the mascaras aren't as impressive as they should be.
Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani is credited with giving tailored elegance, power, and sex appeal to standbys like men's suits, and turning Hollywood's A-list stars into fashion icons as they parade through countless award ceremonies adorned in his simple yet elegant creations. According to Armani, "Elegance doesn't mean being noticed, it means being remembered." That statement has been parlayed into the designer's makeup collection, where the products are replete with the textures, colors, and flawless application that assure your natural beauty will be memorable rather than masked.
Because Armani has always been passionate about textures, it's no surprise that his makeup (which is the main reason to check out this line) presents an impressive collection that features some of the smoothest, lightest textures you're likely to find. From foundations to powders, eyeshadows, and mascaras—even pencils—the makeup selection includes some truly stellar products. According to the brochure for Armani's makeup, the supreme textures and silky application are the result of Micro-fil technology. This supposedly allows for a precise blending and layering of select ingredients, offering a heightened sense of color that fits like a second skin.
Regardless of how that technology is labeled, almost all of the makeup contains standard silicone polymers along with ordinary ingredients like nylon-12. Of course, many cosmetics companies have their equivalent version of Micro-fil, but Armani seems to have taken it one step further, though not always toward desired results. For example, the eyeshadows, while very smooth and easy to blend, aren't much for intensity, a point the counter personnel made clear.
There are a few other instances where the pricey products aren't all they're made out to be, but this is the world of cosmetics, and although the fantasy is for every product to be perfect, that's hardly ever the reality. Still, there are many compelling reasons to explore this collection. Although not fully distributed across the United States, it has a presence in most major cities and the products may be purchased on Armani's Web site. Makeup is where it's at for Giorgio Armani's cosmetics line. The skin care was a blatant, exceedingly overpriced afterthought and is not worth considering.
