Don’t let the eyebrow-raising price of this serum convince you that it can lift any part of your face, because it can’t. Claiming to have “5 times the levels of potent lifting, tightening, and repair ingredients,” it makes you wonder what their other products are for if this one is so powerful. Regrettably, the formula for this serum tells another story.
Like most of Lauder’s serums (whether from their namesake line or others they own, such as Clinique and Bobbi Brown), this contains several antioxidants along with lesser amounts of cell-communicating and skin-repairing ingredients. Yet, for all the good that antioxidants do for our skin, none of them can lift sagging skin or make it “tighter and more toned,” at least not beyond the fleeting sensation of skin feeling tighter, which isn’t the same as actually making skin tighter.
In terms of sagging—although we wish it weren’t the case—there are no skin-care ingredients that can actually help. The multiple factors that lead to sagging (sun damage, bone loss, fat pads shifting, muscle movement, gravity) simply cannot be addressed by any skin-care product, regardless of price tag or claim.
Lauder’s claim of a “significantly more lifted look” implies you’ll get the results you’re looking for, but the way the claim is worded it doesn’t actually state that any lifting is taking place. A “lifted look” doesn’t mean your skin will actually be lifted—even if it were lifted, where would the excess skin go?
The gemstones in this product may sound exotic, but there is no research showing that such ingredients can do anything for wrinkles, or for any other skin problem for that matter.
Although this serum contains lots of antioxidants and has a silky texture, the amount of gold is a potential problem. Yes, gold is luxurious and expensive, and a hallmark of the Re-Nutriv line—but gold doesn’t have any benefits for your skin. In fact, applied topically, gold can cause contact dermatitis (Sources: Sources: Inflammation and Allergy Drug Targets, September 2008, pages 145–162; Dermatologic Therapy, volume 17, 2004, pages 321–327; and Cutis, May 2000, pages 323–326). That means this serum stands a fairly good chance of being problematic, potentially hurting your skin’s healing process, and hindering healthy collagen production.
You’re also getting a lot of shine with this serum, but a shiny finish isn’t skin care, it’s just shine, and it’s not enough of a light show to make anyone think you’re looking younger. In the end, this serum isn’t worth the expense—Lauder and many other companies offer better options, all of which are on our Best Serums list.

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance
The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.
The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.
When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
