| Advanced Face Firming Activator is a “ramped up” version of Perricone’s original Alpha Lipoic Acid Face Firming Activator, and it’s an improvement. Both versions contain glycolic acid, but the Advanced contains more AHA (roughly 10%) and at a pH that allows exfoliation to occur. The pH of the original Face Firming Activator prevents the glycolic acid from working as an exfoliant. Both versions contain alpha lipoic acid along with some other interesting antioxidants, though some are present in mere window-dressing amounts. Consider this a good AHA lotion for normal to slightly dry skin, though not one that’s superior to many other well-formulated AHA products. The firming claim has some basis in truth because of the manner in which glycolic acid works when it’s correctly formulated. Ongoing use stimulates collagen production, which will result in smoother, firmer skin. We’re not talking firm as in you’ll think you’re in your twenties again—instead, think incremental minor improvements. |
