Review:
Surprise, Clinique is now in the “mineral makeup” game, too. And it’s strictly a marketing gimmick, as mineral makeup is not unique; in fact, most powders are mineral-based. Given that other Lauder-owned brands also offer various forms of mineral makeup, it was a foregone conclusion that Clinique would eventually join the fray.

So how does Clinique’s contribution stack up? Overall, reasonably well. It’s great that the sunscreen is pure titanium dioxide and that the jar package includes a sifter that shaves off the solid formed powder as you rotate from its edges.. Although that seems clever and allows the user to control how much powder is dispensed, it does little to minimize the mess that is inherent to loose powders.

Application-wise, this powder’s slightly creamy texture goes on smoothly and provides sheer to medium coverage with a soft matte finish. It is best for normal to slightly dry or slightly oily skin; those with pronounced oily areas will find this isn’t absorbent enough, while those with dry areas will find it makes them more noticeable. You may be tempted to try this foundation because it claims to help absorb oil while maintaining skin’s moisture balance, but it absolutely cannot do that. The main ingredients are absorbent by nature, and even though Clinique includes some emollient ingredients, they cannot overcome the absorbency of the titanium dioxide, talc, and mica, although the emollients do keep this powder from being as absorbent as it could be, which is why those with oily skin won’t be pleased. As for the shades, almost all of them are excellent, but the medium to dark shades (there are no options for very dark skin tones) tend to look slightly chalky unless applied sheer. Natural 6 and Natural 7 suffer a bit from being slightly peach, but are still worth considering.
